The Pulsar Accolade XQ38 thermal imager features two eye pieces and one objective lens and a high resolution 384x288 17 micron sensor, to deliver high performance viewing at a remarkable price.  Whilst commonly used for foxing at night, the Pulsar thermal imaging range is perfect for deer stalking by day, allowing you to spot, identify and track quarry at distances up to a 1.3km, we take a look at what the Accolade delivers over all the other units.

The best field of view for Deer Stalking

The Accolade XQ38 thermal binoculars features a 3.1x to 12.4x magnification which provides a wide field of view for scanning large open areas, as well as permitting use in woodland areas for close up observation or tracking deer in cover.

Compared to the Helion XQ50F which has a 4.1x to 16.4x mag, the XQ50F can provide "too much mag" at closer ranges, making scanning woodland areas more difficult as the field of view is much narrower.

The Dual Difference

In comparison to single-eyepiece optical gear, binoculars suit much better for long-time observation. The dual eyepiece configuration employed in Accolade reduces eye fatigue during longer viewing and enhances the natural look of objects. 

Thermal Colour Palletes - Why do i have them?

Along with the standard b/w image rendering, ACCOLADE offers a variety of color palettes. We are often asked what these palettes are used for and what settings should i use.

Accolade permits two "favourite" colour palettes to be quickly selected on the controller and we usually have White Hot, and Violet applied, allowing us to use the Violet colour to quickly scan and detect hot subjects, as this mode enhances the difference in objects against the background allowing you to identify objects faster.

Switching to White Hot provides a clear defined image, permitting clearer identification.

Other modes are available including Hot Black which is often favored for detecting wildlife at night, Red monochrome which helps to reduce or prevent bright backlight from exiting the eyepiece, Sepia which often improves long-range observation while “Red Hot”, “Rainbow” and “Ultramarine” enhance temperature differences of various object attributes. Violet helps to identify objects faster.

Manual contrast/brightness settings are readily available in the menu. Accolade thermal binoculars are rugged and dependable. The IPX7 waterproof rating and frost- resistant AMOLED display allow the binoculars to withstand extreme natural weather conditions.

The Accolade binoculars are powered with quick-change long-life rechargeable battery packs. The innovative battery-release mechanism ensures on-the-go battery change. The device operates up to 8 hours in Wi-Fi mode on a regular IPS5 battery pack. Operating time can double with the optional 10 000 mAh battery. Like any other modern gear, the Accolade features a Wi-Fi module designed to live-stream video seen through the binoculars to your mobile device or directly to YouTube. Wi-Fi also allows the user to control some of your binoculars’ settings such as digital zoom, calibration, image setup.
